Lengthening of Vowels before R

For advanced students. It may be a fine point that you notice when listening closely to Dutch, but don't worry about pronouncing this correctly in your first years of learning Dutch.

Dutch vowels get longer before R and/or slightly change tone.
As a native speaker of Dutch that comes to me naturally, and in the past I was not aware of it.
There are a few names, verb conjugations, adjective declinations, children's and mild slang words on this page.
An R after a syllable break shouldn't make a difference.
